Sri George.K.Thomas.Barch.A.I.I.A, Graduated from M.I.T.Manipal is a practicing architect of Kannur for the last 12 years. The residences he designed for the past Dist. Collector and the immediate past Chief Election Commissioner of Kerala, The president of the Handloom Exporters Association and the president of the Indian Medical Association won much acclaim. Many of his projects were telecast by Asianet & Jeevan T.V channels. The Designer + Builder magazine brought out a special edition to honour him in April 2007. The Vanitha magazine and the Grihalakshmi magazine featured him many a times as an outstanding Architect with innovative skills. The National daily, ‘The Hindu’, also published some of his articles about architecture. The Mascot Beach Resort and The Western Manor apartments at Payyambalam Kannur stand testimony to his credentials. The residences he designed for M/s. Mascot Textile group, The Malabar Residency group, Har Cars, Popular Stores, Kohinoor Mattresses, Hotel Sky Palace, Geesons Group, Nikshan Electronics etc are worth mentioning. He is the immediate past Chairman of The Indian Institute Of Architects Kannur and is presently the Hon. Secretary of the Indian Institute of Architect Kerala chapter. He received the ‘OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION’ Award from IIA Kerala Chapter in Jan. 2009. He was the president of the Rotary club of Cannanore for the year 2005-06 and presently a district officer of the Rotary International He received the very prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International He is married to Mini and couple of two children He has offices at Kannur & Kochi.

The Kannur Kendra of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was inaugurated by Mr. Justice V.S. Malimath, former Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, in 1986. The Kendra started the Kindergarten classes the same year. The School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and has classes from L.K.G to Std XII. It prepares students for the All India Secondary School Examination (Std XII). The School’s first batch appeared for the All India Secondary School Examination in 1995. It was in 1997, that the first batch appeared for the All India Senior School Certificate Examination. The School has been maintaining high standards in both the examinations.

Sree Narayana College, Kannur is one of the biggest institutions of higher education in Kannur District. The College was founded in the name of His Holiness Sree Narayana Guru, the great saint and social reformer of our state, by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. The founder manager, Late Sri. R. Sankar made pioneering efforts to start a group of institutions named after Sree Narayana Guru. This college was formally inaugurated on the 6th of July 1960 by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, Late R. Sankar. From its status as a junior college it has now grown into a full fledged post-graduate college with affiliated research centres in its post graduate departments of Zoology , Chemistry & Commerce. This college, affiliated to Kannur University imparts instruction to nearly two thousand students in different branches of Arts, Science and Commerce at the under-graduate and post-graduate levels. This college is situated on a serene twenty-acre campus, `Govardhan Giri' at Thottada about 6kms. south of Kannur town. `Govardan Giri was donated for the purpose by Late Haridas Govardhandas Khimji. The college has a Regional Development Council (R.D.C.) headed by a president to look after its immediate requirements. Successive R.D.Cs have done a great deal of work in the improvement of the various infrastructural facilities of the college. The names of some of the prominent R.D.C. members like Late Kayiath Damodaran and Late Dr. T.P. Balakrishnan deserve special mention.
